The Switch to Veganism: The Right Move for the Planet

“One to change a few. A few to change many. Many to change the world. It all starts with one,” or so goes the age-old anonymous proverb. This timeless mentality can be wholeheartedly applied to the modern quest of clean, vegan eating, as we all can help change society's impact on the world’s climate as simply as one meal selection at a time.

Each and every year, the meat and dairy industries account for 7.1 gigatons of greenhouse gases, or a total of 14.5 percent of manmade carbon emissions worldwide, only bolstered by livestock’s massive methane output during the digestive process. The atmospheric hole caused such emissions have caused startling repercussions on the earth, resulting in sea levels rising, natural disasters appearing with increased frequency and a climbing global temperature, beginning to change everyone's lives as we know it.


Even the United Nations itself, known for its historic work bringing countries across the globe together in peace, has recommended for the world’s population to shift toward veganism in an effort to save the planet.


“Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth increasing consumption of animal products,” read the UN report. “Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”


Recently, a study conducted by the renowned Oxford University detailed that meat-eaters are directly responsible for nearly twice as many green-house gas emissions than their vegetarian peers, and up to 2.5 times as much as vegans, making the switch away from animal products a clear need for the future of the earth and its inhabitants.
